What Do You Want?

November waltz in immediately after October and there’s no stopping the time and soon it will be Christmas. I had good three months blogging and my October posts totaled to 43 up by two hundred fifty percent compared to August and September when I decided to get into writing and them, my thoughts I mean out there. This is all because of Blogging U … an interesting community of newbies like me and much more.

I’ve done random posting styles — from text posts, post with photos, photos only, video with some write ups, personal stories, free flow poem, general topic, I even had a poll about my header and the latest are the humanitarian cartoon editorial. I tried anything and see, feel what gives and what doesn’t and I have seen trends which are interesting but I want to confirm it some more, that is why I like your inputs. ¬†I will try to make it more interesting in the coming months whilst building my readership, keeping with my theme and staying on track.

I’ve seen varieties also from those I follow and following me, that is why I said interesting mix. I will be coming back for more ūüôā I am learning more about parenting, photography, new places, marriage etc…

Buddy up

An interesting task but I didn’t have the popularity others have, I haven’t collaborated with anyone, I was busy the last few days I didn’t have time to sort my thoughts well, Wayne maybe we’ll have the chance someday for the meantime keep on rockin’!

Though I like to experience cross blogging one day and even be a contributor in some sites I admire. Before this task, I revived my membership at World¬†Pulse¬†community, posting my own thoughts on Women Issues (and a lot more) but that is not as crafty as doing it in WordPress, it’s just like writing for my report. The potential to link up is huge. I can take advantage of my experience here and use it when I am posting there … I already decided to do a Weekly Journal on Women with Disability so hopefully you can check it out.

Giving you what you want

Another interesting task. I got mixed reviews when I posted my stats in October (When I Am Feeling Blue) and I was happy that I did that post because that gave me ideas on how to use stats to my advantage¬†and understand where and how traffic starts … hhmmmmm …

But like I said, I am still in the steep learning curve, this is a whole new experience … still building up my brand … finding my niche in this blogsphere of 2 billion users, but I can only have that if I commit to this and build my readership

… it will come, I know.

But before Blogging 201 ends, I like to get the readers consensus on what you want to read on my site and I’ll try give it to you. Here’s my top 3 post of last month …

a. When I Am Feeling Blue

b. Second Nomination …

c. Audit My Brand

These are posts for the daily tasks but I have more in it … you can check posts according to my page in my menu.

Check out What I Did Where to get to know about my adventures in places where I used to work and live or In My Opinion to get to know more my line of thinking — issues that matter to me and much more.

But you have to also help me with your thoughts, your ideas, suggestions and anything you can say on what you want to see here and I’ll try to see what I can do to satisfy my readers.

I like to invite you to take the Poll Daddy Survey or the SM  at your convenience.

And finally, I will take this opportunity to say thank you to the people that helped me from the start and continue to help me by asking questions, giving ideas, recommendations and commenting. You’ve been a good friend …

When I’m Feeling Blue

Whoa! this is such a revelation …

views

The graph looks like it’s on its way up but I need to see darker shades of blue than the “sky” ones … I need to attract more visitors

Well, I visit the “Stats” from time to time not really making heads and tails of it. I just know that it counts everything that is happening in my site but have not thought much of what I can use it for.

After 3 months of being in the WordPress community I am not feeling bad with my stats.¬†In fact the graph looks like I’m on my way up but of course I like the darker shades of blue higher than it is now. Don’t you?
The Darker the Blue the better it is for my site¬†— it means more of you are reading my blog and hopefully don’t just click the “like” star but leave me some of your thoughts and follow me. Lighter Blue hue is¬†of course very very good too — it means you are coming back to see more of what I’ve accomplished so far ūüėČ

So with this task, well, I sort of mapped out what can be done and I think if I want to survive in this “writing cage” then I have to do a bit more effort — so I decided to add some spice and continue those everything nice in the coming days, weeks and months and see how my traffic would spike without a hiccup ūüėČ

  • I think Sunday-Monday and Thursday-Friday are my good pair days while Thursday-Wednesday-Tuesdays are runners-up — so I have to find things to do on the other 3 days to encourage others to visit “our” sites (seems like middle of the week is lean)
  • I get more traffic, visits, views from the community, when I post in the Daily Prompt or other events — so I have to be more in it hoping to increase the my followers.
  • Events and other weekly challenges from fellow bloggers also increases traffic so I will try to engage my site more in that — will challenge myself to do it!
  • Take advantage of the Daily Prompt to get inspiration in what I want to write in what method (and genre)
  • Nominations for awards are inspiring — I don’t mind getting more of them and helping newbies like me.

If I can I want to be posting daily but there are days when the mind is willing but the hands are not or vis-√†-vis … or there are days when inspirations are crowded with other equally important matters (I am actually in the middle of writing my research paper¬†when I got distracted – a welcome one – by this tasks and started writing here) ¬†… or when it’s better to be just snuggling with my¬†pillows and read other¬†people’s thoughts in writing¬†than writing mine. ¬†Whatever my reasons are, I know the are just excuses for me keeping up with blogging (it’s my alter ego talking behind my back).

So I will try to make good with my goals and start conceptualizing more what this blog site is all about … start sorting through my wealth of photos and experience and telling stories about them … start getting you involved in my writing life.

I Write Because …

Chicks1By nature I like talking. My personal and work life evolved around talking.

I also mastered the art of talking out loud especially when my brain works overtime and there’s no one out there to listen to my thoughts but myself.

So I write.

Technical writing.

Report writing.

Love Letters.

Prose.

Poems.

Doodles.

Blogging.

Name it I write them. ¬†I write everywhere … diaries with keys, journals, draft papers, book borders and now online.

But why do I really write here? ¬†I can think of two reasons …

1. writing online provides an opportunity for my thoughts to be heard (read) by many

2. to learn from the people I meet online and to teach, share what I can to others too

Are they enough? I guess they are for now. As a newbie WordPress blogger I am still in the process of making my site and posts¬†better organized and categorized. I am still in the learning process so I could only aim …

… to keep on writing and hope I could write my thoughts everyday if not at least thrice a week¬†until I can tell all my stories to a wide audience

… to reach as far as I could by increasing my followers to triple digits by the end of ¬†the year at the same time increase blogs I follow (that matters to me) and leave sensible messages to them like I want them to do to mine

… to encourage more and more people through my blog, my writings, my musing and my being their friend to be selfless and be more emphatic through a weekly feature event I would like to create before the holiday and towards the next years to come¬†

Until I am ready to metamorphose into something else. When that happens, you will all know.

To achieve my goals, it also depends on you too … yes, YOU. Because like talking, I need someone to respond, nod their heads in agreement or shake their heads on disagreement. You need to talk back to me, to teach me, tell me what I am doing wrong and right.

I need you to keep that orange bubble on the right hand corner of the browser keep lighting up and maybe even sending me personal mails to really seal the deal (of friendship).

The ultimate goal is FOR US TO GROW TOGETHER in writing and CONTINUE HAVING FUN.

Fiction in a Non-fiction World

I already mapped out what I will do with my way of blogging, since it was meant to chronicle my life since the Y2K until I went into sabbatical ten years after, I decided to find a system around the materials I’ve collected over the years. I’ve tons of photos¬†and stories that should fill my roll until I covered 365 days times 10 years but that would be impossible unless I plant myself in front of my laptop and keep on writing until my fingers bleed.

Having said that and just finished going through those photos I was talking about here, I am lost as to where to begin. Should I start with Cambodia only? That is because I spent six years of my development career there or jump from places to places until I satisfied all what I want to write about, but is that the right way to do it? For someone who has worked in complex situation and solved many conflicts, I can’t seem to agree with myself what to write ha ha!

Screen grab from http://questgarden.com/

Good thing there is this daily prompt — a saving grace for ideas when there’s sooooo many to choose from. I can literally use today’s prompt of Great Divide to my advantage without gearing away on what I really want to share here, it may be unconventional but I am sure it would fit in ūüôā

When reading for fun, do you usually choose fiction or non-fiction? Do you have an idea why you prefer one over the other?

‚ô•

Before I ventured into development, reading for me was really just for fun. We grew up around books and I have no particular preference whether fiction or non-fiction, just devoured anything and everything, appreciated every word and still is nostalgic about the feel and smell of books over electronic ones. Literary interest started early, of mostly poems but was never really meant for sharing, all for personal consumption and I was happy with that. It was my treasure trove of what I was when I was younger.

I grew up and was thrown into the realities of life beyond the comfortable boundaries I was brought up to and I started to appreciate non-fictional stories about life and I got drunk into it that I made it my career until now. ¬†I read stories far greater and older than you and I get struck as to asking “is this really true?” ¬†I didn’t know then that what I knew now really happened and I was angry, confused, even at some point in denial because the stories I heard and read are too far for my “new mind” was able to comprehend. Angry still after ten years and counting, that in spite of the developments around the world a lot of “what if’s” are never given much attention, and change for the better is still illusive.

Many still are suffering, though many are being done but the fiction of life happens when the wheels of change is very slow to turn, that it sometimes feel that nothing seems to change in spite of all the works been done to make “reality” happens. Many are still trapped in the cycle of disdain to enjoy what living is all about in their own definition of life.

As with story telling, life is about co-existence, you cannot separate the reality from fiction because one feeds off the other vis-a-vis and therefor no great divide. It is up to us, reading, to see the fiction in the non-fictional stories.
