When I’m Feeling Blue

Whoa! this is such a revelation …

views

The graph looks like it’s on its way up but I need to see darker shades of blue than the “sky” ones … I need to attract more visitors

Well, I visit the “Stats” from time to time not really making heads and tails of it. I just know that it counts everything that is happening in my site but have not thought much of what I can use it for.

After 3 months of being in the WordPress community I am not feeling bad with my stats. In fact the graph looks like I’m on my way up but of course I like the darker shades of blue higher than it is now. Don’t you?
The Darker the Blue the better it is for my site — it means more of you are reading my blog and hopefully don’t just click the “like” star but leave me some of your thoughts and follow me. Lighter Blue hue is of course very very good too — it means you are coming back to see more of what I’ve accomplished so far 😉

So with this task, well, I sort of mapped out what can be done and I think if I want to survive in this “writing cage” then I have to do a bit more effort — so I decided to add some spice and continue those everything nice in the coming days, weeks and months and see how my traffic would spike without a hiccup 😉

  • I think Sunday-Monday and Thursday-Friday are my good pair days while Thursday-Wednesday-Tuesdays are runners-up — so I have to find things to do on the other 3 days to encourage others to visit “our” sites (seems like middle of the week is lean)
  • I get more traffic, visits, views from the community, when I post in the Daily Prompt or other events — so I have to be more in it hoping to increase the my followers.
  • Events and other weekly challenges from fellow bloggers also increases traffic so I will try to engage my site more in that — will challenge myself to do it!
  • Take advantage of the Daily Prompt to get inspiration in what I want to write in what method (and genre)
  • Nominations for awards are inspiring — I don’t mind getting more of them and helping newbies like me.

If I can I want to be posting daily but there are days when the mind is willing but the hands are not or vis-à-vis … or there are days when inspirations are crowded with other equally important matters (I am actually in the middle of writing my research paper when I got distracted – a welcome one – by this tasks and started writing here)  … or when it’s better to be just snuggling with my pillows and read other people’s thoughts in writing than writing mine.  Whatever my reasons are, I know the are just excuses for me keeping up with blogging (it’s my alter ego talking behind my back).

So I will try to make good with my goals and start conceptualizing more what this blog site is all about … start sorting through my wealth of photos and experience and telling stories about them … start getting you involved in my writing life.

More power to you if you need to boost your stats and your ego. I bet you have really good ones already. Try to cultivate followers that are in tune with what you put here and be sure to return the favor by commenting on their blogs.

I’m one who is not obsessed with comments or views but I have to admit that perhaps all bloggers need to have their egos stoked or otherwise why are we blogging unless we want to educate and that is something that I try to do on my blog.

Keep up the good work and now get back to that paper. 🙂

My blogs are also mostly in an informative style.
Especially because they are the ground work for businesses, my only aim is not to engage readership, but to build reference libraries.
Sometimes, these objectives can be at odds with one another.
I don’t think it is so much about stroking egos.
We all have limited time, so sometimes you are just more likely to invest time in someone who is investing time in you!

It’s been not even two months since I started my blog, and I was prepared to get nearly no traffic for 6 months. 10 days in, and I already wanted more. So much for being prepared.
I noticed that when I go around and like, comment on or follow like minded bloggers, my stats rise. I haven’t participated in any consent yet, but now I finally feel like I’m happy with the way my blog is growing. 900+views in 3 months is a really good rise.

well we all have reasons why we’re here pouring our souls out … so it’s not bad to think of it this early and mine would be to see I get more the words out there than just me re-reading my post over and over 🙂

so, no fret — a newbie like you and me will get there someday 😉

Ah yes stats. The provide you with good information but they don’t always tell the whole story. LOL, also sometimes they go wonky. Mine started going backwards one day. One day I had no visitors but lots of comments and likes. Go figure. Invisible people.

is that what you call “silent followers” lol … i think this is a good tool and somehow useful to give users something to munch on when thinking where all this blogging is going … you see how many followers, visits, views, comments, like you got hopefully yhat could make you happy 😀

I consider it a really good thing if there is a lot of light blue, because that means that the visitors that did make it to my blog looked at multiple posts/pages, which means they found something they liked. 🙂

Good stuff! It is never a bad thing to study your stats and really find out what works with your blog. Many bloggers consider that “lame,” but I personally see it as doing necessary homework. Nice post and best of luck on your next milestone! -OM

this tasks are meant to help us discover a wealth of ideas and tools in WP to help bloggers get to where they want their blogs to go … eventually after some time we start not to care simply because you’ve reached enough viewership and we just keep on writing 🙂

I like to find out what works how and what whe can use in which way. How we can improve. I am tinkering on my blog all the time. Sometimes I am just reading what others say and try to understand how I could do this too. And sometimes I am just glad that my blog is up and running.
