One of the perks of doing what I do … I get to travel, meet the local and immerse in the culture even in passing.
Me and my team after a week-long visit in one of the district passed by a weekend market and mingled with the locals. I had opportunity to take photos of the surrounding hills, the market and the people.
Villages in the rural parts of Timor Leste are far apart and motorized transport is few, often there are days they won’t see any. People walk from their village or ride their donkeys to move around. Most of the people living in those hilltop villages don’t even get to go to the capital. They congregate in weekend markets to get their supplies and for the farmers to sell their produce and even to charge their cellphones.
If you want to meet the people, promote something or experience a little bit of culture — hunt these weekly market and I am sure you will have fun, meet people and take good photos to show off.
